Omaha Hi-Low: Fundamental Summary

[ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants can get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in just about all poker games.

The low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.

While it seems difficult at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi low provides an exciting range of wagering choices and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as a few trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
