No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
