Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed taking part in different card games at a young age. He earned some additional cash by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he might boost his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and concentrate even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his game happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard headed to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
