Stu Ungar is regarded by many to the greatest No Limit Hold em Poker gambler ever.

The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and began wagering poker before reaching his teens.

The young gambler started out betting gin and at the age of ten had won his first gin rummy tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the small poker maestro had become a professional and stopped going to school.

In ‘54 Stu entered the record books by winning $10,000 in a gin rummy tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York these days.

The quick talking wiz kid has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting superstars like Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu had a true ability for wagering poker but in spite of his achievements in Texas holdem poker, he preferred betting gin.

Stu once said that there may some day be a improved No Limit Holdem gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.

In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the greatest Holdem Poker gamblers in the globe when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Amazingly it was the very first time he had entered the tournament.

The right after year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by effectively protecting his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
